💛 Color Medicine: Yellow — Sunshine, Clarity, and the Risk of Yellow Snow

🌼 My Yellow Seasons

Every spring, I notice the same thing: I start craving yellow. My hair gets lighter with highlights, my wardrobe brightens, my towels and sheets turn golden, and I scatter playful accents around my van or house. Daffodils pop up like Sleeping Beauties, and suddenly I feel alive again.

Even in winter, when the world feels gray, a yellow bedspread or lamp can shift my mood. Yellow reminds me of corn muffins, daisies, sunshine, turmeric, curry — all the delicious, comforting, golden things that make life feel yummy.

Bleep: “Unless it’s yellow snow. In which case — hard pass. Frank Zappa said it best: ‘Watch out where the huskies go, and don’t you eat that yellow snow.’”

🧠 The Psychology of Yellow

Yellow is the color of the solar plexus chakra — our center of confidence, clarity, and willpower. Psychologists link it with:

  • Intellect & Clarity: It stimulates the left brain, helping with focus, learning, and problem-solving.

  • Optimism & Joy: Yellow is literally the “sunshine color,” boosting serotonin and brightening mood.

  • Playfulness & Curiosity: It has a childlike, exploratory quality.

Goethe, who studied color deeply, said: “Yellow is a light which has been dampened by darkness.” It’s radiant but fragile — it needs balance.

Van Gogh (whose sunflowers are iconic) wrote: “How wonderful yellow is. It stands for the sun.” For him, yellow was the color of hope and expression — even during his darkest struggles.

🌑 The Shadow Side of Yellow

Of course, yellow isn’t all sunshine. Its shadow can be:

  • Anxiety & Nervousness: Too much yellow overstimulates the nervous system, leading to worry or panic.

  • Judgment & Criticism: At its worst, yellow can sharpen into harsh intellect and perfectionism.

  • Cowardice or Fear: The old phrase “yellow-bellied” still carries weight — it can signal avoidance or hiding.

Bleep: “Translation: yellow can either make you feel like a sunflower… or like you’ve had ten cups of coffee and a midlife crisis before breakfast.”

☀️ Yellow as Medicine

Yellow is a natural antidepressant. When I surround myself with it in winter — golden sheets, buttery light, a bowl of lemons — it lifts me. In spring, it’s daffodils and sunshine pulling me forward into new growth.

In food, yellow shows up in corn, turmeric, curry, eggs, citrus. It’s warmth and nourishment. It’s brightness in your belly.

In design, even one yellow pillow, lamp, or painting can make a gray room feel alive.

Bleep: “But be warned: paint a whole room neon yellow and you’ll feel like you’re living inside a highlighter. And not in a good way.”

🧘 Three Contemplative Questions

  1. How does your body respond when you see yellow? Do you feel warm, cheerful, restless, or irritated?

  2. Where in your life do you crave clarity and confidence — and could adding a touch of yellow help you claim it?

  3. What’s your “shadow yellow”? Is it anxiety, criticism, or fear — and how could you soften it with compassion?

🎭 Final Word

Yellow is a paradox. It’s sunshine and caution tape. Joy and anxiety. Butter on bread and hazard signs. It’s the color of learning, clarity, curiosity — but also of overstimulation.

If you’re drawn to yellow, it may be your soul asking for joy, clarity, or courage. If you avoid it, it may be because it feels too loud, too vulnerable. Either way, yellow is a mirror.

Use it intentionally — in your food, in your clothes, in your home — and let it remind you that even in the darkest season, the sun still rises.

Bleep: “And seriously… don’t eat the yellow snow. That’s enlightenment you don’t need.”

Tré Taylor & Bleep the tattoo

Hi, I’m Tré Taylor — a mystic woman with a clown brain, a singer with a story, and a late-diagnosed neurodivergent who finally feels at home in her own skin. After a near-death experience, wild spiritual awakenings, and a lifetime of feeling like an alien on Earth, I’ve learned to heal through humor, music, art, and self-expression — no pills, just soul medicine.

This little corner of the internet is for the weirdos, misfits, rebels, and lone wolves who’ve ever felt “too much” or “not enough.” Here you’ll find true stories from my unusual life — some hilarious, some tender, all a little crazy — along with music, food, and creative sparks meant to make your heart lighter.

And you won’t just meet me… you’ll meet Bleep, my tattoo hand puppet with a swearing problem. He’s my comic relief and my partner in crime. Together, we’re here to say: you’re not alone. This is your safe space to laugh, heal, and shine out loud.
