A few years ago, I hit pause on hustle culture and began rebuilding my life from the ground up. What started as survival slowly became something much more beautiful—a journey of curiosity, healing, resilience, and discovering what truly matters.

Happy Halloween, my beautiful friends! 🧡 This year feels especially bittersweet. Last week, we unexpectedly lost one of my most beloved longtime friends, Nik Jackson, our extraordinary pirate captain, whose beautiful wife, Valerie, is one of my dearest friends. Nik was the kind of man who made you feel safe and loved. He even built the cabinetry and installed the big security locks inside my beloved van. Losing him so suddenly has left our entire village heartbroken. I've just returned from helping Valerie through those first difficult days, and I'm incredibly grateful for the wonderful friends surrounding her with love and support. Now it's time to rest a little, hold those precious memories close, and find a few moments of joy.
And what better medicine for a tender heart than love, laughter, creativity, and COOKIES? 🍪👀 While pet-sitting here at my little Nomad Kitchen, I'm whipping up some ridiculously delicious Halloween Monster Cookies, packed with peanut butter, oatmeal, chocolate chips, colorful Halloween sprinkles, and goofy candy eyeballs! Sparkling Spiced Hard Cider
It’s the holiday season, and if you’re thinking about brewing something special for the holidays, now is the perfect time to get started. A beautiful holiday stout beer is always fun, but one of the easiest and most delicious homebrews you can make is sparkling hard cider. This Holiday Sparkling Spiced Hard Cider is festive, dry and fragrant, wonderfully fizzy, and surprisingly simple to make at home.
I’ve spent plenty of time around serious home brewers — the wonderfully scientific, slightly mad sort of people who make you feel like you need a prescription just to sit at their pirate bar — and some of the best cider I’ve ever tasted has been homemade. Once you learn the basics, you can play with spices, pomegranate, different fruits, sweetness, and fermentation time to create something completely your own. This is one of my favorite recipes to teach because it’s easy, affordable, festive, and absolutely wonderful for holiday gatherings and special occasions.
If you’ve never tried making hard naturally fermented dry hard cider before, this is a delicious place to begin.

Here are a few favorite highlights from Pacific Coast Fog Fest 2026 in beautiful Pacifica, California. One unforgettable weekend filled with pirates, music, food, art, laughter, and a whole lot of neighborhood mischief. The Manor Pirates and O’Craven stormed the parade, while Tré Taylor & Bleep the Tattoo kept the pirates fed with a proper Pirate Breakfast of Rum Roses, Halloween treats, delicious recipes, and plenty of silliness along the way. Scooby-Doo S’mores Crunch Balls
Sometimes you just need a ball of joy.
This week, while I was away pet-sitting, two windows were smashed out of my van. It was a rough reminder of how quickly life can turn sideways—but so many wonderful people stepped forward to help me get through it. And somewhere between dealing with broken glass and getting back on my feet, I decided we needed something delicious.
Halloween is coming. I love Scooby-Doo. I had marshmallows. Clearly, there was only one reasonable thing to do.
Meet my Scooby-Doo S’mores Crunch Balls—part s’more, part Rice Krispy treat and one gloriously gooey, crunchy handful of happiness. They’re packed with dark chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows, crispy rice cereal and a secret little hit of cinnamon crunch from Scooby-Doo cereal. I rolled them into big, beautiful balls, tucked them into the freezer, and somehow a difficult week tasted considerably better.

This Labor Day weekend brought two new recipes to The Nomad Kitchen, inspired by one of my favorite humans and greatest musical influences, the incomparable Dolly Parton. I got my hands on a box of her Sweet Cornbread & Muffin Mix and, naturally, I had to fluff it up—with creamed corn, sharp cheddar and a little extra love. The result was ridiculously moist, tender cornbread and the sweetest little muffins. Dolly's music, humor, generosity, courage and enormous heart have inspired me both personally and musically, and although she will be deeply missed, what she gave the world will live on forever.

I had the joy of attending the 10th Anniversary World Dog Surfing Championships at beautiful Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California, and it was every bit as magical as you'd imagine.
From first-time surfers like the amazing Golden Retriever Moxie to seasoned wave-riding champions, the beach was filled with incredible dogs, cheering families, and nonstop smiles.
I captured some of my favorite moments to share with fellow dog lovers—proof that sometimes the happiest place on Earth is where paws meet the Pacific! 🏄♂️🐶
