💗 Dolly Parton Sweet Cornbread, Fluffed Up with Love
Dolly Parton Sweet Cornbread — Fluffed Up with Love 💗🌽
A little cornbread, a little country music, and a whole lot of love. In this special Nomad Kitchen recipe, I’m paying tribute to one of my favorite American icons, Dolly Parton—a legendary singer, songwriter, performer, philanthropist, and woman with a heart of gold whose love of family, community, humor, and giving back has inspired generations.
I had never tried Dolly Parton’s Sweet Cornbread & Muffin Mix, so over a wonderful Labor Day weekend with friends, I decided to fluff up a box with creamed corn, sharp cheddar cheese, butter, and a little Nomad Kitchen love. The result was incredibly moist, sweet-and-savory cornbread with beautiful pieces of corn and melted cheddar throughout. I even turned part of the batch into muffins—and those little beauties disappeared fast.
Serve it warm with homemade whipped honey butter and you’ve got serious comfort food.
This post is also a little love letter to Dolly. Watch the included documentary to learn more about her extraordinary life and legacy, then explore some of Dolly’s baking mixes and make something delicious in her honor. Sometimes paying tribute to someone who brought joy into the world can be as simple as gathering around a table, sharing good food, turning up the music, and passing the cornbread.

There are recipes you plan.
And then there are recipes that happen because you're standing in a girlfriend’s kitchen after a long, wonderful weekend full of music, old friends, swimming pools, hot tubs, laughter and entirely too much food—and there happens to be a box of Dolly Parton cornbread in your hand.
This is the second kind.
Over Labor Day weekend, I headed up to Stockton to celebrate some dear friends and their beautiful new home. There was a huge pool party, a birthday, a housewarming, musicians everywhere, old friends I hadn't seen in ages and, miraculously, everybody behaved themselves.
Just music, food, friendship and a glorious California weekend.
Later, I found myself back in another friend's kitchen making dinner, and out came a box of Duncan Hines Dolly Parton's Sweet Cornbread & Muffin Mix.
And because I apparently have difficulty leaving perfectly good recipes alone, I started tinkering.
💗 A can of creamed corn.
🧀 Sharp cheddar cheese.
🧈 Real butter.
🍯 And eventually, a bowl of homemade honey butter.
Good Lord.
This wasn't ordinary boxed cornbread anymore.
It came out moist, tender and almost cakey, with little pockets of sweet corn running through it and enough sharp cheddar to balance all that sweetness with something salty and savory.
The cheese did something else I loved: despite all the moisture from the creamed corn, the finished cornbread held together beautifully. Once slightly cooled, I could cut a proper piece, pick it up in my hand and eat it without the whole thing collapsing into crumbs.
And then we put honey butter on it.
At that point, resistance was futile.
💕 A Little Love for Dolly💗
I've adored Dolly Parton for years—not simply because she was an extraordinary songwriter and performer, but because she represented something increasingly precious: enormous talent without losing her sense of humor, generosity or humanity.
After Dolly's passing in August 2026, making this little pan of cornbread unexpectedly felt like a tiny tribute.
Nothing solemn.
Nothing fancy.
Just something warm and delicious made to be passed around a table among friends.
That seems pretty appropriate to me.
So, Dolly, this one's for you.
With extra butter, naturally.
