Well, hello, my beautiful, deliciously weird friends!

What a wild ride life has been lately.

This Halloween arrives with a heavier heart than usual. Last week, we unexpectedly lost one of my dearest, longtime friends, Nik Jackson. He was far too young to leave this party, and we're all still trying to wrap our heads and hearts around his absence.

When you reach a certain age, you begin to understand just how precious and fragile this crazy little adventure called LIFE really is.

People you love can be here one day and gone the next. And suddenly, all those ordinary, ridiculous, beautiful moments you shared become extraordinary treasures.

I'm profoundly grateful for the adventures, laughter, and memories we've made together over the years.

I'm also grateful for the beautiful village of friends who show up when life gets difficult. Sometimes love looks like a warm hug. Sometimes it looks like washing dishes, carrying boxes, walking dogs, or simply sitting quietly beside someone who is hurting.

And sometimes you have to remember to take care of your own heart, too.

Because even the people who bring the sunshine need a little sunshine themselves.

SHE BAKES COOKIES WITH EYEBALLS!

Naturally.

I'm talking glorious oatmeal, peanut butter, and chocolate chip Monster Cookies, loaded with colorful candies, Halloween sprinkles, and enough ridiculous little candy eyeballs to make every cookie look like it's watching you.

Some have two eyes. Some have three.

Some look like they may have witnessed a crime.

And they're DELICIOUS!

I thought it might be fun to share a few with some of my favorite local characters, perhaps visit a familiar watering hole, enjoy a little music, and maybe dance the cobwebs out of my soul.

Nothing extravagant. Nothing complicated.

Just a little laughter, a little love, and a little reminder that being alive is still a pretty magnificent thing.

But then came the important question…

Now, anybody who knows me knows I love costumes, characters, outrageous hats, and just about anything that makes people smile.

So I decided to play with my favorite digital creative accomplice: ChatGPT, affectionately known around here as my Big Brain.

I uploaded a photograph of myself, added a couple of Halloween makeup inspiration pictures, and asked ChatGPT to create some original designs using my own face.

I was imagining a little pumpkin glamour, a little Picasso, some abstract face painting, dramatic eyeliner, and perhaps a few flames.

Orange, black, red, and maybe a dash of purple glitter!

Well…

And because I couldn't possibly leave well enough alone, I asked Big Brain to transform one of my favorite looks into a glamorous Halloween headshot.

Apparently all I needed was a little digital fairy dust, a fabulous hat, and an imaginary makeup artist who never gets tired!

Now I'm dreaming of black sequins, orange pumpkin stockings, thigh-high boots, a spectacular black top hat with netting, and two ridiculously long blonde Barbie ponytails.

Because subtlety has never really been my strongest personality trait.

And Then Bleep Demanded Equal Billing! 🏴‍☠️

Of course, I couldn't have all the fun.

Meet my outrageous little partner in crime, Bleep the Tattoo, my left-hand tattoo puppet, who has been making mischief with me for years.

Bleep already had a pirate hat, so naturally he wanted to get in on the Halloween fashion business.

I uploaded his photograph and asked ChatGPT to give him the same glamorous treatment.

Because apparently even a tattoo needs a stylist these days.

Honestly, I think he's going to demand his own dressing room.

The truth is, this Halloween feels different.

I'm carrying a lot of love and a lot of sadness.

I'm missing someone very dear to me, and my heart is with the people whose lives have been forever changed by his passing.

But I'm also remembering something important:

Joy and grief can live in the same heart.

We can miss someone terribly and still laugh.

We can cry in the morning and dance in the evening.

We can honor the people we've lost by remembering to love the life we're still fortunate enough to have.

So this Halloween, whether you're dancing in a crazy costume, staying home with your pets, passing out candy, or simply enjoying a quiet evening, I hope you find a little comfort and joy.

Hold your loved ones a little closer.

Give those precious pets an extra snuggle.
